Support for the Entire Perinatal Period
Having a child is a transformative journey. I am there to support you from the time you hire me, through labor and birth, and into the beautiful and sometimes sleepless days with your newborns. If there are medical questions you need to discuss, or you're looking for info on baby gear or referral to practitioners, I am here to help.
Prenatally I like to stay in touch with clients -- so I can be up to speed on what's happening with your pregnancy and your care, but also so we can get to know each other before the birth. Generally I'll check in by text once a month or so if I haven't heard from you - I'm here as a resource, not an obligation. We will have two prenatal visits (one if you have done this before) to discuss your plans for your baby's birth and the postpartum period and explore any questions you have. We'll try to anticipate and prepare for any challenges specific to you. My goal as a doula is to support your choices and help you feel safe and comfortable.
I officially go on call at 38 weeks (earlier if baby is expected early!). "On call" means I'm more vigilant about keeping my phone with me at all times and have arrangements in place so I can get to you quickly. If you go into labor unexpectedly before 38 weeks, we will support you, it just might take us a little longer to to get there.
During early labor, I will be in touch with you every few hours but it's generally recommended that expectant parents relax and distract at home - and a doula's presence can add pressure without being very helpful. I am ready to join you whenever you feel you need more help, either at home or when you head to the birth place.
During labor, I help you find positions to facilitate labor and your comfort, offer massage, breath coaching, and reassurance, and other comfort labor techniques. I also help your partner so they can play in active role in assisting you through labor. I make sure you you both get food and rest, and advocate for you and your wishes.
After baby is born, I remain with you to assist with breastfeeding and other needs, usually for an hour or two. Over the next few weeks, I will visit you at home I to help with newborn care and feeding, processing the birth, and light household tasks. My intention is to make the newborn period as smooth as possible and help you build confidence as a parents. I'm very flexible about what this support looks like, as needs vary widely. And I bring homemade lactation cookies!
Yoga
Doula clients can choose either one series of parent/infant yoga classes at no charge or attend any number of prenatal group classes for free at One MiInd Yoga in Issaquah.
Packages:
∞ New Parent Birth Doula services include two prenatal visits, continuous birth support, two or three postpartum visits and everything above.
∞ Second-time parents discount Since parents with a previous vaginal birth often have fewer questions, faster labors, and need less postpartum support, I offer a discounted rate. Same services as above, but with one prenatal and one postpartum visit.
∞ Other services arranged by request: placenta encapsulation, belly casting, etc. I can help coordinate whatever services you need!
